I find myself agreeing with almost all of this, I kept thinking 'but that is just what we do'. That said one area I wonder about is the idea of delaying UI design as long as possible, I don't think UI changes are all that difficult any more and they are certainly a long way from irreversible. In fact if you don't have a UI available how can you get early and frequent feedback from your users?
