I got Tagged
I got tagged before Christmas by Patrick Logan
1. I first discovered computers when my Dad brought home a ZX81, not really stopped programming since then although found myself (not entirely willingly?) moving more towards an architectural advisory role in recent times. I still need to get my code hacking fix on a regular basis.
2. I live in central London but miss the countryside, when I was growing up I spent a lot of the time in the Peak District. I guess I just want the best of both worlds: big city and beautiful scenery.
3. My first job was at the Meteorological office in Bracknell, at the time a truly awful little town, this was the only place I ever worked where they had 2 Crays in the basement. From there I went to DEC (which I always got told off for saying when I worked there) and got introduced to scaling via threads, clusters and 64 bit computing on the Alpha - always saddens me to see how long it took the rest of the industry to catch up.
4. I love travelling and managed to see over half of Europe while working for DEC and Tibco Finance. My favorite city in the world is Copenhagen where I spent 3 wonderful months, although I stupidly nearly refused to go (thanks Richard!).
5. I'm fascinated by physics and nearly choose that over computer science at university. I think that's where my interest in the theoretical side of computing comes from. Always amazed when I interview graduates who don't know what a Turing machine is. (don't worry it's not a requirement!)
So I'm meant to tag some people myself, here goes: Paul Hammant, Joe Walnes, Gregor Hohpe, Dan North and Duncan Cragg.
